This years annual “Black Girls Rock” once again, did not disappoint! The event spot lights were some of the most influential and powerful women within our culture. Since originating in 2006, “BGR” has gained notoriety not only from the African American female community but from across the globe as well. The cool and confident Tracee Ellis Ross, who hosted the event, could be considered the epitome of “Black Girls Rock!” From honorees like Gladys Knight and Rihann, a to guest speakers including potential democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, this year’s event was one like none other.
Of course what would an amazing night like this be without fabulous fashion darling! So you know we were on the scene for the ladies that were undeniably scorching hot on the red carpet. With grace, sass’, style, and class, it’s no mystery as to why Black Girls Rock. And when it comes to fashion Black Girls do not disappoint either! Check out some of our best dressed picks from the night.
Marsha Ambrosius went for drama when she hit the red carpet honey! Her sheer lengthy belted blouse paired with the simplistic wide leg black slacks worked perfect for her. An easy look, with a rockstar edge.
The weather may have been nasty while on the red carpet but you know this wasn’t going to stop bad gal RiRi from slaying as usual! In an oversized men’s style button down, RiRi paired it with white shorts and a fab full length fur coat. She added a touch of sparkle with a few hair accessories. Rihanna served us and we loved it all!
We’re not sure whether to thank Balmain or Monica’s stylist for this fierce two piece velvet look. Her Sophia Webster pumps paired perfectly with the sleek ensemble.
Kelly Rowland was hot in this all white, plunging neckline jump suit, complete with nude pumps. Her bronzy makeup and brown girl glow cannot go unnoticed!
Kelly wasn’t the only one killing it in a jumpsuit on the red carpet. Eva Marcille, in House of CB, also rocked a taupe body con jump suit that was fitted in all the right places.
Bonus Pick: Tracee Ellis Ross
There may have been too many amazing looks from Miss Ross to choose just one. Whether it was the red carpet or a diva medley dance number, Tracee did her thing!
One thing our favorites all have in common is that their looks were laced in confidence! Rihanna said it best “The minute you learn to love yourself, you would not want to be anyone else;” A lesson as essential in fashion, as it is in life.
