It’s amazing how when you’re in love you can give a long laundry list of things and reasons as to why your beloved, has captured your heart. I mean really…you can literally sit down with a piece of paper and pen in hand and scribble down all of the fuzzy, cute and fantastical things that has inspired that very Kool-Aid smile that is now on your face, but when it’s time to write out what you love about yourself you hesitate. You gaze up at the ceiling while tapping your pen on your chin as you try to gather up what qualities and characteristics you have that justifies your very own greatness! If you find yourself in this position, you may want to take a moment and reflect on how you truly feel about yourself.

It’s the Inside that Counts
The same way you can write a list of pros and cons when it comes to your spouse, instead why not make it a list about you, but this time only write down the things you admire and love about yourself. Whether it’s the ability to be a peacemaker, cooking skills or great sense of humor. Focus on what you find not admirable about you!

And you’re right! That someone is you! If you’re combing your hair, brushing your teeth or applying your makeup…you see the reflection of yourself and what everyone else sees when you cross paths with them! And I bet the first thing that comes to mind is something you don’t find favorable. But instead of pointing out what you don’t like, identify what you adore! Is it your eyes? Lips or certain features on your body? Once you’ve identified those things tell yourself aloud what they are and what makes them so appealing to you.

I have always found these to be one of the best resources to have when embarking on a journey of true love. It gives you the necessary steps on how to deal with some of your own negative thoughts by replacing them with cognitive statements, journals and scenarios. Personally I highly recommend Author Shawnta Jackson’s “The Journal of a Woman with Lived Experiences, a 21-Day Guided Journal” I promise you will not be disappointed and there is even journal space for you to document your own lived experiences.

Healthy Lifestyle
Eat, drink and get plenty of rest. Loving yourself isn’t the only way of thinking; taking the necessary and proper actions all go hand in hand. Possibly even finding a support group of others can also be helpful and an enjoyable way to meet potential friends.

Positive Affirmations Before Bed
Grab a set of headphones and allow yourself to drift into a deep sleep while listening to positive affirmations that will remind you of how beautiful, smart and kind you are. It has been a proven fact that our subconscious minds are still at work even when we are asleep.
I guarantee that if you try any one of these tactics and stick with them consistently you will find yourself feeling great about who you are from the inside out in no time!
