Move electronics!

Develop a strong sleep routine by learning to relax your mind! Move your charging ports for electronics and your alarm clock away from your bed. 30 minutes before bed, set your alarm, turn off the television, and plug in your devices to charge. Leave them alone until the following morning. Minimize your late night mental stimulation – it’ll allow you to fall asleep quicker so you won’t have to hit the snooze button in the morning!

Clear clutter!

Studies have shown people sleep better in a clean space. Remove the junk, put away your laundry, and dust! Clear the clutter to clear your mind and rest easier.

Use aromatherapy!

Each of your five senses needs to be considered when creating your rest haven. Did you know your sense of smell can either help or hinder your sleep? Incorporate lavender into your bedroom in the form of candles, air fresheners, and linen sprays. Aromatherapy with lavender calms the nervous system, relieves headaches and tension, minimizes stress and improves sleep. Consider using lavender at bedtime with a body scrub, a cup of hot lavender tea, and a lavender-scented linen spray for pillows.

Invest in bedding!

Everyone knows to invest in the mattress that meets their requirements but often times, people neglect the bedding. Pillows ensure your neck and head are positioned correctly, while your bed linen ensures you maintain a comfortable body temperature. Find the bedding that works for you and be sure to maintain it. Wash your pillows every month to kill dust mites and bacteria. Change your sheets and linen every week to ensure they remain soft, fluffy and fresh.

Have multiple light sources!

Every bedroom should have 3 types of lighting:
Overhead or Bright Lighting: This lighting is used to see the entire space. It is great for your morning routine and daytime use.
Bedside or Task Lighting: This lighting should be used at night to relax your eyes. It is also great for reading in bed.
Ambient lighting: This lighting can serve dual-purpose. It can be used for relaxing with scents and for setting the mood. If you light a candle at night be sure to blow it out before bed!

Your rest is critical to your success as your mood and health are directly affected. Take a few minutes today to invest in your tomorrows! Make sleep a priority and your future self will thank you!
