Women naturally tend to be competitive and hard on ourselves as it relates to our physical appearance. Because most, not all, women are obsessed with their looks, we will go through great extremes to ensure we look our best at all times. The fact that men are such visual creatures contributes radically to why women are so weight and beauty conscience. In essence, women tend to place a higher focus on physical beauty based on the high-pressure society has inadvertently placed on us to be perfect. This notion is illustrated vividly by the ever expanding billion-dollar cosmetic/ beauty and hair care industries.
With that said, most women (in general) have always been super insecure about aging out of fear that their beauty fades in time. It’s still not 100% clear, but a major reason is that black women have a higher melanin content, which also acts as natural protection from UV rays. Now, African American women do experience visible aging. It’s just at a (much) slower pace than the other skin types,” retrieved from Urban Gyal by Fredrick Many cliché phrases like, “Black don’t Crack” have been passed on for generations in response to how well Black women age.
“The Multi-Decade and Ethnicity (MDE) study, led by Dr Alexa Kimball from Harvard Medical School, discovered that black women really do age slower than white women. There’s about a decade’s difference between them, in fact. If you think they just chose two or three women, think again. They actually examined 350 women from four ethnic groups spanning six decades,” by way of Urban Gyal by Fredrick “Women of African-American background aged slower than women of Caucasian background as far as skin appearance was concerned. In fact, the aging process seemed to be slowed down by about 10 years.” Olay principal scientist, Dr. Frauke Neuser
