Courtney Love- Insights from a “Traveling Mom”

Welcome to Ustyle Magazine! You know I couldn’t wait to converse with you. One thing I have noticed about you is you don’t speak and do things unless it makes sense and I love that about you, now Let’s get started!

USTYLE: Please let the readers know the decision you made on behalf of your family.

Court: Thank you for having me. So in July of 2020 at the height of the pandemic my family and I took a vacation (or so I thought to Hollywood, FL) while on vacation we realized how much we loved the environment. We immediately started looking for places to live. 2 weeks later we secured a 2 bedroom 2 bath home on the intracoastal for 6 months. We enjoyed the weather and just being away from the noise but something was still missing. Fast forward to January 2021 our lease was about to be up and around this time I found out I was pregnant with my now 7 month old, let me just add I had really bad morning sickness and it was cold in Florida so once again the feeling for more was present. I began looking at flights to Tanzania in Africa and Cartagena in Colombia, ultimately I chose Cartagena because it was only 2 1/2 hours from Florida and the flights were just $50 one way. January 23, 2021, Estrella and I left for Cartagena, Colombia in South America.

USTYLE: South America! Why did you decide to make the choice that you did and were there multiple locations you considered before making your final decision?

Court: Our decision to relocate at the time was based solely on what was happening in the USA. Crime was at an all time high, inflation, pandemic, food cost, etc. We had two options Africa or South America, although Africa had many pros, Colombia was only 2 1/2 hours from Florida. So sunny Cartagena it was!

USTYLE: Please introduce us to your beautiful family.

Court: I have five children by birth. Rosalie (21)- David (17)- Prince Corlee (5) Estrella( 3) – Mi Corazon 7 months Bonus son King (13) and my Amazing husband Micah

USTYLE: Beautiful family. How did your family react when you told them what you were deciding to do, especially the older ones?

Court: For a long time the older ones have known of our plans to relocate, I always told them it was a matter of when to just be prepared. The little ones look forward to adventures, we did not tell them our plans it was sort of a surprise. Rosalie is in the states studying, she has visited prayerfully she will be living here soon. David is adjusting well.

USTYLE: From my observation it shows me that you are a hands-on, full-time Mom. When did you decide that you were moving out of the States and what were those early discussions like when preparing?

Court: Yes I am a full time mom; entrepreneur too. Hence why having time freedom and the best quality of life is essential. I believe 10 yrs ago were my first initial thoughts of living abroad. Since then I have researched and traveled to many countries, in my search I discovered the beauty in South America. About 5 yrs ago my husband; I really started exploring Colombia, we would watch YouTube videos of the different cities, crime rates, cost of living, we really looked at the good and bad.

USTYLE: So, was it a culture shock when you first arrived and what was your first night like there?

Court: When Estrella and I arrived it was a huge relief, I took a deep breath then let go of everything that wasn’t serving me. What I love about Colombia is that women/ children receive priority preference so we went straight to the front of customs line, answered some questions and received our Colombia stamp of entry valid for 90 days. The airport is small which is a huge plus, we were greeted by sunshine & taxi drivers eager to get a fare. Once we arrived at our Airbnb in Bocagrande in Colombia (tourist area) we went to put our bag down, then changed into our swimwear; went directly across to the beach and enjoyed our day. We ate the most delicious Mojarra, coconut rice, salad and plantains with fresh Mango juice OMG just thinking about it is making my mouth water, lol. We spent the entire day on the beach getting to know the locals; relaxing. Our first day in Cartagena was fabulous everything we needed plus more.

USTYLE: Was there ever a time you second guessed your decision, because let’s be honest you have small children? Were you ever scared for them?

Court: I don’t think I ever questioned whether we were making a good decision but there were moments when I remember being frustrated that I was here and my husband; children were still in America. Also it took about 2 1/2 months and moving around to five different barrios to finally secure our own place that was a bit unnerving. Thankfully we found our 4 bedroom 3 bathroom home close to the airport, private beach and in a residential area for a great price and no hassle move in. Around this time David had arrived so I was happy that our lives were progressing.

USTYLE: What were a few must haves for the children?

Court: First and foremost it’s safety, having parks; kid friendly and activities is a bonus.

USTYLE: How would you describe the lifestyle of a “Traveling Mom”, yes that is the name I have given you because I am so living through you and your family right now every time I see your pictures?

Court: I love that title ” Traveling Mom ” . It’s really a lifestyle. I am always planning an experience for us, whether it’s to a museum or booking plane tickets. I rather my children have memories to cherish vs things that break or they lose. Everyday we are present in the moment expecting greatness. Instead of reading history in books that were written decades & centuries ago, we visit pyramids, forts and star cities in real life

USTYLE: Where would you say has been the most breathtaking place you and your family has had the opportunity to visit?

Court: I’ve been to some A-mazing countries with and without the children, however as a family we visited Medellin, Colombia. This city is spectacular especially during the Christmas Holidays and New Years is like no other.. Big lights, lots of music, festivities it’s just a vibe that I am thankful we experienced, together. The mountain views, Spring time climate and breathtaking sights is one of the reasons Medellin is one of our favorite cities in South America. If you ever visit Cartagena, Medellin it’s only a 45 minute plane ride away and roundtrip flights usually cost about $40.00. Treat yourself!

USTYLE: Everyone has off days, what advice would you give to someone finding it hard to step out of their comfort zone?

Court: Turn off the outside chatter (social media, put your phones on DND) and turn on your inner awareness. Begin to discover what truly makes your heart and soul smile. For me, it’s being grounded and close to the ocean, which is a healer in itself. The sunshine is a major component also, it energizes my entire being. Meditate for at least 15 minutes before you begin your day. This could be sitting in silence, listening to mantras that raise your vibrations, exercising to release anxiety and stress. Also drink water with limes and eating fruits is an instant mood changer for me. Having a daily wellness routine is key to advancing in life

USTYLE: For mothers or fathers who are new to this (traveling with kids) or contemplating leaving the United States and think it’s impossible to do, what advice would you give to them?

Court: Don’t waste unnecessary funds on frivolous things. Start an {EXITUS} savings account. Download {Duolingo} to help you with studying the native language of the country that interests you. It’s definitely possible you just have to make a decision and remember plans change, decisions don’t. The word it self says I’m Possible. Go for it!

USTYLE: What’s a typical day like for you?

Court: My days usually began at 6:30 a.m. right before the sunrise. The kids are still asleep, I get up and I meditate for at least 15 minutes while there is no noise. I then shower, drink a glass of water with lime, check my bank accounts and emails. I either go out to get fresh air or on my balcony in my room to take it all in and thank God for every blessing he has bestowed upon us. Showing gratitude is top tier! Fresh fruits are delivered to our doorstep daily, I prepare the kids breakfast and their lessons for the day. After school I take them to the park, pool or beach if they didn’t pluck my nerves, lol. We normally eat pizzas, tacos, empanadas, sushi or sandwiches for lunch with fresh fruit drinks. Dinner is most likely pasta, fish and veggies it’s so many delicious fish found in the Caribbean, there’s a lot of variety for children and families. We spend a lot of time at home however there is plenty to do where we are never bored.

USTYLE: What do you miss most about being in the States? It does nor appear you miss anything.

Court: I, well we don’t miss America, my only wish is for my closet friends and family to join me in Paradise. The Quality of Life is so beautiful here.

USTYLE: The kids look so unbelievably happy. As their Mom, how does that make you feel to be able to provide such a beautiful quality of life for them with so many memorable moments?

Court: I dreamt of days I am living now with my husband and children. The most satisfying feeling is seeing them live care-free and just be children without all the worries of the world. I feel accomplished to say the least.

USTYLE: In planning this life change, what are five most important things that you had to take with you or make sure was there for you upon settling into your new destination?

Court: Almond oil, Bambu rolling papers , frontó leafs, pancakes and AMAZON, lol.

USTYLE: Lol, I love it!

USTYLE: How important do you feel it is to make sure your babies are experiencing the world and not be held in a box of others perceptions of what life looks like?

Court: Very Important, you discover yourself when you travel. Not to mention the people you meet along the way. I don’t want them to feel like they’re stuck or have to stay in one place forever. I will always encourage them to travel and see the world.

USTYLE: What was the hardest decision you had to make when choosing to take this leap?

Court: The hardest decision was knowing I was going to be away from my husband, he didn’t arrive in Colombia until July. However we knew it was for a greater purpose, now we are here thriving together.

USTYLE: Give me a few comparisons between living in the States versus living in South America.

Court: Cost of living Maryland you are looking at $2,100 for a 3bdrm with 2 1/2 bath, no pool, gym, parks, no utilities included, close to Metro In Cartagena ($700) for a 4bdrm with 3 baths, one block from the beach, one block from the airport, 24hr concierge, great weather, all utilities included. In Maryland you are paying ($5) one small pack of strawberries and in Cartagena for ($6) you can get 5 bananas, whole pineapple, avocado, pack of strawberries; grapes and Crime Maryland -Alerts every single day on Ring alarm ( carjacking, shootings, etc) Cartagena- it’s basically nonexistent, I haven’t experienced anything no sirens, no fights, no ambulances. The most peace we’ve had in our entire lives.

USTYLE: Clearly you are an “out of the box thinker” and I love that. Would you say this is the best observation of your personality?

Court: Yes! I do what I say, true go getter in every sense.

USTYLE: What are you hoping your kids will take away from the experiences you are providing for them right now?

Court: Don’t stop envisioning or creating the life you desire. Nothing is unattainable, the universe will conspire with other natural forces to give you everything your heart desires, when you plan and execute. I hope for them to speak and communicate in many languages and bridge cultural gaps Internationally. My wish is for my children is to show the future generations the Blueprint to Freedom

USTYLE: I am so in love with that philosophy!

USTYLE: What was it like going through the COVID pandemic?

Court: I thrived in my Beauty business during the pandemic that still wasn’t satisfying enough, hence why we left from Washington, DC to Florida in July of 2020. Being in Florida was a chance for me to gain more education and experience in my field. I went back to school for my Master Esthetician and Nail license and began working in a Luxury Hotel as an Esthetician. It was great until it wasn’t. The hours were not consistent, my time freedom was more important.

USTYLE: Yes, as you get older you really begin to value your time, maybe because we begin to realize how short life is. Would you say it is important that you and your family are always present and in the moment?

Court: For so many years we spent more time chasing goals and dreams, that we forget how much we had overcame and achieved. My husband, the children and I make a conscious decision to be present in the now and enjoy what we’ve created together, right here, right now!

USTYLE: Would you consider yourself a “global citizen” at this point?

Court: We are working on our permanent residencies here in Colombia. We have another country that interests us that we will likely to be a citizen of and we’re American. So yes you can call us Global citizens, lol

USTYLE: Any plans to move back to the States?

Court: No plans

USTYLE: Any new projects your working on? Tell me all about it
