Get me some smoke. Let’s get blazed. Give me some of that sticky icky. To these terms we all know well, whether we partake in the Yerba (I like to use the Earthlier term, seems less potent) or not, we usually will take a small sniff or puff and nod in approval. But what about your 7-year-old partaking, and at school none the less with the principal’s approval? Do we still give that stoner nod of approval and condone it as everyday action they will soon outgrow? Well to the students in Colorado Public Schools, their politics are saying… hells yeah! Now it may not be thecannabis-oil marijuana that some know and love in that benevolent herb form, but more of the oil form known as Cannabis Oil.

ssential-oil.htm
Cannabis Oil is known to ease the complications associated with epilepsy, seizures, and autism. One of the most popular and well-known uses of cannabis oil is for the purpose of relief from anxiety and stress. The natural compounds found in cannabis oil are effective for relaxing the mind, releasing pleasure hormone, reducing stress and inducing a sense of calmness and relaxation to the user (cbd-international.net.2018). With the high-ranking advocates and parents that lobbied the Colorado legislature, giving then many reasons why cannabis oil can alleviate their children’s chronic illnesses, the governor had no choice but to approve Colorado’s House Bill 1236. A new law signed by Gov. John Hickenlooper of Colorado, allows parents to bring the medicine, cannabis oil, a non-smoking form of marijuana, to a school nurse’s office for a child who has a medical marijuana card. The law requires that the medicine be kept in a locked storage container and that the school principal and a parent have a written agreement. It also says the parent must bring a doctor’s note that instructs the school nurse about dosage and timing. Under the law, students receiving medical marijuana at school cannot carry the medicine to the nurse’s office or bring it on a school bus (The Denver Post, 2018).

Now with all the legalities and benefits fully stated, many questions arise. Does cannabis oil start a craving for other drugs and that can lead to lifelong dependencies, is it a gate-way drug? Are there different qualities of the oil that are better than other? These are just a few questions that have to be considered to properly conclude on this debate.

In every parent’s journey to raise compassionate, independent, well-rounded, grounded human beings, capable of managing and contributing in this vast world, we all have to make certain decision for our children. Some decisions just based on their own individual needs, blocking out the eyes and opinions of society for their betterment. If cannabis oil was a way to alleviate your child’s ailments and illnesses would you use it? Would you give permission for it to be administered in school?

Are you ready for this decision to hit the Washington, DC area, well
if you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t worry, just puff-puff pass on that answer for now…
