5-4-3-2-1 … It’s almost the start of a New Year and time to roll out the endless clichés for what 2016 will bring. “New Year, New You/Me,” “I’m finally going to lose weight this year,” “It’s all about me in 2016”…yadda, yadda, yadda! Unfortunately, the fire behind most resolutions will fizzle out before February. Instead of counting down to one day to “flip the switch” on change, act on it now so by the time the New Year rolls in, you’ll be living it!
Answer the little voice in your head. No, you’re not crazy for having one, but you’d be crazy for ignoring it. Your conscious and emotions drive you and will tell you when things are in your best interest and when they’re not. In your relationships, you hear it all of the time. Intuition can be your best friend, but sometimes we purposefully silence it. We all have things that we’ve been contemplating and now is the time to simply act on it. No, that doesn’t mean jumping off of the plane without a parachute, but you should be moved to put the foundation in place. Don’t wait for one day to define it for you.
Bereal … with yourself. The problem with most “resolutions” is they aren’t realistic to your current situation. Think about your circumstances and plan to reach your goals in a realistic way. If your resolution is to buy a new home, maybe make a resolution to do financial planning instead. If you hate your job, think about a career change and lay out what’s needed to make that happen. Or, if you simply want to alleviate stress or worry, plot on removing the factors that contribute to it first.
Moral of the story. A new year’s resolution should be more than a phrase that sounds good for the moment. It should be one that is a REAL SOLUTION and will result in improvement in your life. Make a vision board, meditate on it, pray on it, woosah, or whatever need be so that this time next year you’re celebrating all of your success!
