50 Is the New 30

We’re overloaded with choices of products that promise us eternal youth. Persuasively sold services like Botox and Juvederm are suggested for short-term fixes to prevent or fix what we’ve been convinced is a problem, and we’re constantly digesting messages that tell us a beauty regimen is needed to be beautiful.

We won’t go into the psychological effect these tactics have on us, because we are all well-aware of the low self-esteem, anxiety, and low self-confidence that stem from all this nonsense. What a lot of major beauty conglomerates won’t tell you is that preservation of youth is 20-30% genetics. The other 70% has a lot more to do with your diet than what you put on your face.

Don’t get me wrong: sunscreen (30 SPF or higher on the face) is absolutely necessary. A good moisturizer makes a great difference and weekly exfoliation will combat those discoloration spots and dry patches. Now I know when you hear “diet” you think subtraction, but I actually want to add some things to your plate – more importantly, give you lasting ways to help you get all you can out of that expensive beauty regimen or those undeniable genes.

We’ve all heard “What you put in life, is what you get out.” The same applies to your skin care. So here are 3 tips on how to turn up the power in preserving your youthful appearance on a cellular level.

Water

I know this seems so simple – simple enough to almost be annoying. But the truth is that our bodies are initially comprised of 80% water and the percentage decreases as we age. It’s paramount that we replenish our cells daily with aqua. Daily water intake also flushes your cells free of toxins and waste that build up. If you ever want to know how much water you should drink daily, try using a hydration calculator or multiplying your weight by 2/3.

Hyaluronic Acid

This is a substance that is already present in the body and has been used by doctors during certain surgeries and as a filler in injections. It is known for healing wounds, skin ulcers, and burns. From my own personal use taking it orally, I can tell you it internally hydrates and regenerates your joints, skin, and hair.

Collagen

This is a protein that is found in the extracellular space of your connective tissues. It makes up 25-35% of the whole body’s protein content, and protein is what holds the whole body together. This means that all the areas that require elasticity and have protein bonds holding them up would be impacted, i.e., skin, bones, muscles, etc. Collagen is absorbed best when taken with vitamin C. From personal experience I would recommend taking this orally every day to enhance the strength and health of your skin, hair and nails. This is a brand I recommend to take with OJ.
