LESSON IN HUMILITY 101

Do you know that one person always talking about how great they are? How they are about to “blow up” and if people were smart they would “snatch them up”? It’s astonishing the amount of talent that goes untapped (pun intended) all because someone opened up their mouth and ruined it. Everyone has a gift, everyone. But it’s not always what we think it is. If you have to force something on someone, it’s probably a good idea to go back to the drawing board and reevaluate.

Matthew 23:5 (NIV)
“Everything they do is done for men to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long.

The attention seeker does whatever it takes to be seen and heard. It does not matter if they are of substance or not, as long as the spotlight is on them they are happy.”

Matthew 23:12 (NIV)
For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

Then there is the one who does not seek to be seen or heard. They do not look for the praises of any, but do what they do for the love of it. Not only do they move in silence, their objectives are met and recognized without any announcement. There’s no shouting from the rooftops of their greatness, their efforts are naturally recognized.

Your gift will make room for you

There is something aptly attractive about humbleness. Boasting causes others to look; being humble causes them to pay attention. True talent and great character never have to announce themselves; they show up and take control. This is what is sought after. Someone somewhere is looking for you and all that you have to offer. There is never a need for the obvious to be thrown in the face of others.

There is a huge difference between confidence and arrogance. Confidence says, “I know what I’m capable of doing”, without being arrogant enough to verbally say, “I know what I’m capable of doing”.

The first will be last and the last will be first.

Do not be so eager for the spotlight. Everything happens in the time that it’s supposed to happen. While it seems like the wait is long, preparation is key.
